Krishak Bandhu Yojana is a major agricultural welfare scheme launched by the Government of West Bengal, aimed at providing economic security and social support to the farmers of the state. The scheme was launched in January 2019 and relaunched in a new form in June 2021 as “Krishak Bondhu (Natun)”.

Under this scheme, farmers are provided with annual financial assistance (ranging from ₹4,000 to ₹10,000) so that they can meet their farming needs during the Kharif and Rabi crop seasons. Also, if a registered farmer dies (whether natural or accidental), his family is given a one-time assistance of ₹2 lakh.

Objectives Of Krishak Bandhu – কৃষকবন্ধুর উদ্দেশ্য

• Providing annual financial assistance (₹4,000 to ₹10,000) to farmers for two major farming seasons (Kharif and Rabi), so that they can easily bear the expenses of seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, irrigation, etc.
• If a registered farmer dies (whether due to natural causes or accident), his family is given financial assistance of ₹2 lakh. This death benefit gives his family the necessary support to live.
• Protecting farmers from moneylenders and personal debt by providing them with timely funds, thereby reducing the incidence of suicide and financial crisis.
• Financially empowering farmers to make farming profitable and sustainable, so that they continue to farm regularly and increase production.
• Maintaining transparency and eliminating the possibility of corruption by transferring money directly to the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
• The special focus of this scheme is on those farmers who have limited land or who farm on lease so that they can also get equal benefits.
• For the betterment of farmers, the Government of India started the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY). The main objective of this scheme is to realize the goal of “water for every farm” and “more crop per drop”. This will provide relief from the increasing water problem, untimely rains and inadequate irrigation facilities over time.

কৃষক বন্ধুর উপকারিতা – Benefits Of Krishak Bondhu 

• Farmers get financial assistance of ₹10,000 (if the land is 1 acre or more) or a minimum of ₹4,000 (for farmers with less than 1 acre of land) every year. This amount is transferred directly to the bank account for the Kharif and Rabi seasons in two installments.
• If a registered farmer dies between the ages of 18 and 60, his family is given a lump sum assistance of ₹2,00,000. This provides financial security to the farmer’s family.
• With regular financial assistance, farmers do not depend on external loans, which protects them from moneylenders.
• With financial assistance, farmers can buy better seeds, fertilizers, and equipment for their crops, which increases production in farming.
• Under the scheme, payments are made directly to the bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), which prevents corruption and delays in payment.
• Farmers with limited land or those who farm on lease are also beneficiaries of the scheme, which improves their economic condition.

• The beneficiary must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
• The farmer must have a Record of Right (RoR), Patta or Forest Lease of cultivable land in West Bengal.
• Those who do farming on lease (share farmers) are also eligible for the scheme.
• The age of the farmer should be between 18 to 60 years for the death benefit.
• The farmer should be cultivating his land or farming on lease.
